Stages of the Academy’s Formation and Development

• January 27, 1992 – By resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Institute for Training Personnel of the Security Service of Ukraine (ITP SSU) was established.

• In 1992, the first intake of cadets – future operational officers – took place.
• November 17, 1995 – The Institute for Training Personnel of the SSU was reorganized into the Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Since 1996, the Academy began training cadets according to the specialty of Translation with proficiency in two foreign languages.

In 1997, a specialized academic council for the defense of candidates’ theses was established.

• August 2, 1999 – By decree of the President of Ukraine, the Academy of the SSU was granted National status.
• 2004 – The Academy began training specialists in the field of Information Security.
• Since 2007 – A specialized academic council for the defense of doctoral theses has been functioning in the Academy.
• Since 2012 –The Academy has started training reserve officers.
• Since 2014, with the onset of russia’s armed aggression graduates of the SSU National Academy have been defending with arms in their hands, the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.
• In 2015 the first early graduation of cadets took place; students voluntarily completed their studies ahead of their schedule to join the defense of the country in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) as quickly as possible.

During the war, many Academy graduates have been awarded state honors for personal courage in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Following the reform of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Academy faces a new stage of development. However, the commitment to high-quality training of true professionals and defenders of Ukraine to ensure national security remains unchanged.
