14 December 1972 – 13 April 2014

Bilichenko Hennadii Vasylovych

Captain

Hennadii Bilichenko was born on December 14, 1972 in Kazakhstan. In 1994, after military service and graduation from Bobruisk Motor Transport College, he moved to Poltava region, to the village of Hozhuly, where his parents lived.

He was accepted for military service in the Security Service of Ukraine in 1995 - he began his career as an operational driver of Department "A" in the SSU Office in Poltava region.

He graduated from the university in correspondence, received a higher education, and was certified as an officer in his own unit, “Alpha”. During his service, he took part in 180 combat operations, special witness protection measures, and the detention of armed criminals.

Captain Bilichenko was sent to the east of Ukraine in the days of rapid aggravation of events in Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

On April 13, 2014, during a combat mission, a group of special forces officers were sent to liberate the administrative buildings of Sloviansk city in Donetsk region from Russian terrorists and were ambushed. In that battle, Captain Hennadii Bilichenko was mortally wounded and died on the battlefield. His death was the first in the list of servicemen who died in the armed confrontation with Russia in Donbas.

On the same day, the anti-terrorist operation was announced in the east of Ukraine.

Captain Hennadii Bilichenko was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi III degree (posthumously) for fidelity to the military oath and unbroken spirit by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of June 20, 2014.

A memorial sign was erected at the site of the captain's death, and one of the courses of the SSU National Academy is named in his honour.

Hennadii is survived by his wife and son.
