Educational and Research Institute of State Security

An important component of the effective functioning of Ukraine’s state security system is the qualified professional training of the SSU personnel – patriots of the state who can think and act unconventionally and creatively, and who are capable of applying modern theoretical achievements to the practical activities of the Ukraine’s Security Service.

Modern training of higher education students is aimed at continuous professional and personal development, with opportunities for further integration into the security-related educational and research environment.

This is the core principle of how the educational process at the Institute is organized.

The Institute’s goal is the development of competitive programs for training, retraining, and professional development of higher education students in the field of security and defense of Ukraine, with the involvement of SSU operational units.

The Institute’s mission consists in training highly qualified specialists for Ukraine’s security and defense sector. The training is problem-oriented and aims to develop in students the ability to solve complex issues related to countering current threats to Ukraine’s state security.

Key areas of educational activity at the Institute are as follows:

• training of students at the first (bachelor’s), second (master’s), and third (educational and scientific, Doctor of Philosophy) levels;
• retraining of SSU personnel;
• advanced training of operational staff in the main functional areas of SSU activity;
• provision of educational services to other agencies of the security and defense sector and interested government bodies.

Key stakeholders of the educational services are:

• the Security Service of Ukraine;
• agencies of the security and defense sector;
• state authorities.

The Institute’s departments serve as the core units for training and developing the competencies of operational officers of the Ukrainian security service in the main areas of ensuring Ukraine’s state security, such as:

• counterintelligence;
• protection of national statehood and counterterrorism;
• counterintelligence protection of critical infrastructure facilities, etc.

An interactive educational environment is being developed at the Institute in accordance with modern standards of Ukraine’s leading higher education institutions.

The content of the educational and professional programs is created in cooperation with the SSU operational units as the main stakeholders.

Due to productive cooperation with international partners in the field of security and defense, modern experience of foreign security services is being integrated into the educational process.
